Board Game Island

Board Game Island

Board Game Island is one of the options in Wii Party that can be played in the Party Games.

Gameplay

The gameplay is mainly like any traditional board game. In the beginning, the players all play a 4-player minigame which determines the order in which they will go until the next round starts. If you get 1st, 2nd or 3rd you get a bonus die. 1st would get a gold die which consists of the numbers 1-6, 2nd would get a sliver die which consists of the numbers 1-3, 3rd would get a bronze die which consists of the numbers 1 & 2 and 4th would get no bonus die. Once a player rolls the die, they will go to the exact number of spaces, however, there are tons of twists and turns in the board game. If the player gets doubles (Meaning the dice and bonus dice are the same number. Example is 5 & 5), the player gets to roll another die. The highest number you can roll is 18. (6 from regular die, 6 from bonus die & 6 from die if you get doubles). There are 73 spaces on the board. If you manage to get to the top, there will be a dragon structure and in order to beat it, you have to roll a 6 or higher. If you manage to get a 6 or higher, you beat the structure and win the game.

Spaces

In Board Game Island, there are tons of spaces the players can land on. (NOTE: These are not the official names for these spaces) Space bonuses/penalties are not cumulative, meaning that if a space sends you to another space, you won't do the action on that space (that space is crossed out). The only exception is the -4 space caused by volcano eruption.

Name Image Design Effect
Blank Space A white square with a gray cornerless border, then a white cornerless border, then a gray cornered border Nothing
+4 Space A white cornerless square with a blue +4 and blue arrow on it, then a blue cornerless border, then a white cornerless border, then a blue cornered border Moves the player forward 4 spaces
+5 Space A white cornerless square with a blue +5 and blue arrow on it, then a blue cornerless border, then a white cornerless border, then a blue cornered border Moves the player forward 5 spaces
+6 Space A white cornerless square with a blue +6 and blue arrow on it, then a blue cornerless border, then a white cornerless border, then a blue cornered border Moves the player forward 6 spaces
-4 Space A white cornerless square with a red -4 and red arrow on it, then a red cornerless border, then a white cornerless border, then a red cornered border Moves the player back 4 spaces
Tornado Space A white square with a picture of a tornado on it inside a yellow border Rolls 2 die: one with the other player's face and one with different numbers of spaces to go back. The face and number it lands on takes the person and moves them back the amount of spaces by a tornado. Does not affect people who are in the volcano or at the start.
UFO Space A white square with a picture of a UFO on it inside a yellow corneborder Rolls a dice with the other player's faces on it. The face it lands on switches places with the person who rolled the die. Does not affect people on the same space as the person rolling the dice and people in the volcano

Blank Space

When you go to this space nothing happens, you simply stop and the next player starts their turn.

Untitled

UFO Space

Similar to the Tornado Space design except its a picture of a UFO than a Tornado. If a player lands on it, they roll a dice which have the other players' faces. When it lands on a face, the person who landed on the UFO Space and the person's face shown on the die will switch places by a UFO. (Players who are in the volcano or on the same space as the player stepping on the space aren't on the die)

UFO Space

1 vs 3 minigame space

This design is mostly in dark green letters: Minigame with the phrase 1 vs 3 underneath it. It is surrounded by a dark green border. If a player lands on it, he/she will play a 1 vs 3 minigame against the other 3 players. If the solo player wins, he/she will move 10 spaces, if the solo player loses, nothing happens.

Minigame 1 vs 3 Space

1 vs 1 minigame space

This space has the same design as the 1 vs 3 Minigame Space except it says 1 vs 1 instead of 1 vs 3. The person who lands on the space can choose a player to play a 1 vs 1 minigame against (players in the volcano cannot be challenged), and if the person who landed on that space wins, they gets to move 7 spaces and the loser goes back 7 spaces. Otherwise nothing happens.

Minigame 1 vs 1 Space

Challenge Space

The design is just a white star with a pink border. When the player lands on this, he/she will be given a challenge. If they pass the challenge, they will go to how many spaces they have left for that round, if they lose the challenge, bad things will happen (NOTE: The Challenge Space does not count as a space)

Challenge Space

Dinosaur Space

The design for this one is a Pterodactyl on one side and a T-Rex on the other. When a player lands on this space, they roll a dice which has on some sides a Pterodactyl & on other sides a T-Rex. If it lands on the Pterodactyl, the player goes ahead 10 spaces because of the Pterodactyl If they land on the T-Rex, they will go back 8 spaces because of the T-Rex. (NOTE: If it lands on the T-Rex, it will only effect the person who rolled the dice, not the people if they are close to the Dinosaur Space)

Dinosaur Space

Blue Statue Space

The design is a blue statue. If the player lands on it, the statue will pick them up and flings them 16 or 18 spaces ahead.

Blue Statue Space

Red Statue Space

The design is a red statue. If the player land on it, it will pick them up and fling them back 18 spaces.

Red Statue Space

Volcano Space

The design is a volcano. If a player lands on that space, the volcano erupts and all of the spaces (except the ones in the volcano and the blank spaces) will be turned into -4 spaces. These -4 spaces are cumulative. After 3 turns, the board will go back to normal.

Volcano Space

Skull Space

The design for this space is a skull with a half a bone on each corner making a X. If the player lands on that space, he/she will be automatically be dropped into the volcano.

Skull Space

Shout Space

This space only appears in the volcano. The design is a green background with a white zigzag bubble. If the player lands on it, he/she automatically go out of the volcano and back to the island.

Shout Space

Back To Island Space

This is not technically a space but if the player lands on it, he/she will go back to the island. The design of this a light green light.

Challenges

In Board Game Island, there are challenges along the way. Here a list of all of them. (NOTE: None of the challenges count as spaces, and the challenge names listed here aren't the official names of the challenges.)

  1. Rope Leap
    • This challenge consists of the player climbing onto a vine and swinging. A dice will be spun and when it lands on a number, the player will jump off the vine and go to the number of spaces the dice rolled on.
    • ANY HARM: None
    • Odds of completing: 100%
  2. Dragon Wall
    • This challenge consists of a dragon wall. You have to roll a 4 or higher to beat the statue.
    • ANY HARM: If you get a 1-3, you get hit by a fireball that came out of the dragon and you will have to do it again until you or someone else beats it.
    • Odds of completing: 50%
  3. Crates or Barrels
    • This challenge is where you get to decide which path to go across the waterfall. One is crates and one is barrels. After you pick one, you will see if you made it pass or if you didn't.
    • ANY HARM: If the one of the things on the path you chose breaks, you have to swim to the next part of the island. You get a 0 if this happens.
    • Odds of completing: 50%
  4. Volcano or Not
    • This challenge is where you have to roll a 3 or higher to pass.
    • ANY HARM: If you get a 1 or 2, you go into the volcano.
    • Odds of completing: 66.7%
  5. Spike Ball
    • In this challenge, you have to roll a 5 or higher to break the dragon statue.
    • ANY HARM: If you get a 1-4, the statue will throw up a spike ball and the people who have passed the 4th challenge will run back 11 spaces to not get hit by the spike ball. The spike ball will fall where the 4th challenge is. Then the spike ball goes back to its original place and the number to pass decreases by 1. (It can even be 2)
    • Odds of completing:
      • 33.3% when number is 5
      • 50% when number is 4
      • 66.7% when number is 3
      • 83.3% when number is 2
  6. Final Challenge
    • In this final challenge, you have to get a 6 or higher to break the statue and be the winner.
    • ANY HARM: Not really. If you don't get a 6 or higher, you will have to wait until you start your next turn.
    • Odds of completing:
      • 75.9% with a golden die
      • 57.4% with a silver die
      • 52.8% with a bronze die
      • 16.7% without a bonus die

Trivia

  • If a person notices closely enough, when a player is about to go to the 4th challenge, the place where the block pushes you is shown to be a long way to the ground, not the volcano.
  • When the volcano erupts, there is no visible change inside the volcano.

Successors
